I haven't written for AGES. Oh, well - here's a post!
I am going to write about the film, Harry Potter. I really liked it - the opening sequence was fantastic with- Oh, sorry.... I often give away things, and I wouldn't want all of Idyllwild getting mad at me!
ANYWAY... I was afraid that I would be disappointed, but in my opinion, it was one of the best ones! There was a cartoon sequence, that's ALMOST anime - a new change - and more.
The Rustic Theater is playing it for 3 weeks, I think... So don't be surprised if you see me there again!
I would highly recommend it - though you may be startled at a few points - but it was really fun, jumping up at the same time as the rest of the theater.
So go and try it!
-- ZoraIdykidshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11136764054580735228noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5617362899035856938.post-71339340050481525082010-04-09T15:00:00.000-07:002010-04-09T15:14:07.819-07:00ArfHello! This is Zora speaking.
Lately I have been concerned about animals - looking at my new puppy that used to be abused, along with her siblings. I have to face it - I am not one of those people who love their animals more than their parents, and though I have always had a connection with animals, I never had to deal with an abused one 24-7 - she sleeps in my room, also, and drools and shivers when she comes across a man.
Have you heard about ARF, otherwise known as Animal Rescue Friends? It's that dog - cat adoption place up here. It's on the street the town hall is on... It's a place where neglected animals go to, and they are fostered, and later on hopefully adopted. I myself just got my first puppy from ARF. It's an amazing place - however, it needs lots of support. If you aren't ready to adopt a puppy or a kitten, they are open on the weekends, just ready for attention, a treat, or a walk. Anything helps them, especially since they need to get adjusted to people. You could even foster a dog or a cat during the week! It's a really cool place. Occasionally there's an abused pitbull, but you can stay away from them, and most of the time they're really sweet, just neglected.
You also get to find out the stories of the animals - understand them more, which I find very interesting. Sometimes they've been abused, or found wandering around. However, sometimes the animals were really loved but, do to the economy, their owners had to let them go. It is really sad, and of course it's very hard for the furry creatures. Anyway, lend a hand at Arf. They always need support. Or, you could make a small donation.
Thanks! What can you do?
This post is going to be all about games, judging by the name of this post. The following is many games recommended by more than me - by my friends and family, also. They all either cost nothing, or a small amount - after all, this is supposed to be a blog that has easy yet fun things to do!
First of all, Parcheesi. I hate to say it, and who knows what will happen to me now since this is a town of huge gossipers, but... I play Parcheesi against myself when my parents are tired of playing it endlessly with me. Then, they sit, laugh, and watch me play it against myself, surprised that I have a fave team, but I don't let it get away with things. Anyway, it's an awesome game for 4 players, where you try to get your 4 men around the board and into home safely, without being knocked out back to the starting place, or the drawing board, where you can sit and watch your now bitter enemy move 20 spaces - a reward for knocking you out. Even though it sounds tiring and annoying, you might end up being one of those weirdos like me and my friends, who can't get enough of it.
Detectives is a very good game that is fun to play with lots of people. There are two versions of it, actually, listed below.
4 players are probably actually the best amount for this game, if not more... However, you can use 2 or 3 players. Anyway, for this version, divide into 2 teams - detectives, and criminals. Criminals make up a crime - they murdered people and the detectives have to find the bodies, they stole a jewel and the detectives have to find it, etc. Now that the detectives know the crime, the criminals send them somewhere they won't be able to see what they are doing.
The criminals write a series of clues - Giving them the detectives the first one to give them a start. "I have to go to the bathroom" leading to the toilet, where on the toilet there would be another clue, and "I want an apple" leading to the apple bowl would both be very good clues. At the very end, you could hide a "dead" doll, or a "expensive" necklace. The clues will eventually lead to this.
Another version is where you actually have the victims, and you hide them and the clues lead to them. You can put ketchup onto them for blood, or duct tape their mouths - if that's okay with them, of course.
Enjoy!
Zora
Anyway, Gotta go!! My mom has to get on the computer.Idykidshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11136764054580735228noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5617362899035856938.post-14821236600074338742010-02-15T11:28:00.000-08:002010-02-15T11:48:54.549-08:00Donate now!Hello Everyone!!
This is Zora, just so you know...
How is your president's week going?? Mine is great!! Anyway, here are a few donations that would be great to donate to if you have any spare money. I know what you're thinking, probably: "Why would i donate spare money when i can play pinball at the pizza place?" Well sometimes I have a hard time with that, too.... BUT I can do both. And you can too. Donate some money - earn it, by selling toys or something. And then you can save maybe 5 bucks or so and go to the pizza place!! Anyway, here are some ideas on how to earn money. Firstly, collect all of those boring toys you have in your room. I know they are hard to get rid of - this is an every day problem for me, or rather the days when I have to clean my room - the dreaded day. Put them in your wagon, and take them around town. Remember to reasonably price them - these are used toys. (You can also make hand made bracelets, earrings, etc. and sell them).

One way to make sure people buy them is to tell them a little about the organization you are going to donate too: talk about the good things about it, and what this money is going to. (See good organizations at bottom).
*Set a goal for how much money you want to earn - make a reasonable amount.
Also, this doesn't have to be an "I'm gonna earn a bunch of money in one day" kind of goal, it can be long term. Anything makes a difference!!

Good places to donate to:
Finca (donating to Haiti right now) Buy an acre of rain forest, in order to protect it, Doctors without Borders, YES, (based in Santa Cruz), and more! You can look up wonderful organizations to donate too on a website called Credo.
Another good website ishttp://www.girleffect.org/. It shows girls having a hard time. It would be worthwhile seeing!! (You can donate to this website)
Good luck!
-ZoraIdykidshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11136764054580735228noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5617362899035856938.post-43364420257525977732010-01-10T11:04:00.001-08:002010-01-10T11:12:53.051-08:00Ball TagHello -
This is Zora, and I wanted to talk about ball tag. Do you like tag? Well, this is even more fun to me, to my family, and to my brother's friends. First of all, you should have a large yard to play in, since this requires lots of running, and you do not want to be cornered, which can easily happen in a small yard. I would recommend having lots of hiding spots, that are not obvious at all, but where if you were to get found you could easily run away. Here are the steps to get ready for playing ball tag.
1) Get a soft ball that wouldn't hurt if you happened to get hit by it.
2) Get someone to be it, rock paper scissors, or by saying not it.
3) Count to 10 and let everyone run away if you are it.
4) Now run after the people. If you hit them with the ball, that means they are it. You can either throw it or press the ball against them.
tip: If you catch the ball, you aren't it - you can throw it far away from you, too, so that it will take the "it" person a long time to get it back.
This is a really fun game. Hope you play it and enjoy it!
-Zora Idykidshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11136764054580735228noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5617362899035856938.post-69998308917322154252010-01-10T10:42:00.000-08:002010-01-10T11:25:25.961-08:00Avatar
hello!!!!!!!
have you seen the new movie Avatar? If you aren't I wouldn't recommend reading this, actually making this dish, since this has garlic, and oil, and a bunch more abnormal ingredients. Do you like garlic? Are you a major vegetable eater? Because this is a (to me) delicious salad containing a type of dressing called vinaigrette. This is one of my mom's fave salad dressings, since it is soooo easy to make, and soooo healthy. In fact, many of my friends that hate salad (i know, it's kinda weird!) love this recipe. here it is. Enjoy!
First of all, here is how to make the vegetable part of the salad:
1)Get some lettuce, cucumber (not necessary, but cucumbers do taste good with vinaigrette.) , and avocado (also not necessary), and maybe some tomato.
2)Clean and tear up the lettuce in bite - sized chunks. Put in to a large bowl. Partially peel the cucumbers and slice. Add any other veggies like the avocado and tomato.
Recipe for the vinaigrette:
1) Put 2 Tablespoons balsamic vinegar into a soup - sized bowl or jar.
2) Add 1 teaspoon of dijon mustard
3) Press or finely chop 2 cloves of garlic into the mix
4) Add 3 Tablespoons of olive oil
5) Add 2 Tablespoons of flax seed oil (or you can just use 5 tablespoons of olive oil total instead of flax seed oil)
6) Whisk with a fork
7) Add as much salt as you need to taste. (Start with half a teaspoon.)
That's the dressing, now....
drizzle dressing over the salad and toss.
Enjoy! Oh, and happy 2010! It's going to be sooo weird writing /10 at the end of things, right?
-ZoraIdykidshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11136764054580735228noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5617362899035856938.post-73302339081132845772010-01-01T13:23:00.000-08:002010-01-01T13:33:13.653-08:00Hello Again!!!!!This is Zora (again) and i just wanted to tell you about a few good actors and actresses you can keep an eye out for, since they are VERY good, at least to me.
Firstly, Meryl Streep is awesome. When she smiles, you automatically have to smile. When she is disappointed, you have to be disappointed. She's pretty amazing. It is very fun to watch her talk in other languages, or in accents, like french, (Julie And Julia) and it is also fun to hear her sing (Mama Mia). I would highly, highly recommend her acting, since she uses an excellent use of expressions, PLUS she uses her tone of voice perfectly, so when she's sad, she really acts sad, and you believe it.
Another actor is Charlie Chaplin. He is dead, and has been for a long time, but he was hilarious in several silent movies, in his time. At one point he really got me interested, so we watched a movie and saw how flexible he was. He was a clown, and he definitely succeeded, because he would crack me up when i was younger.
I will recommend more later, but i have to go! bye!Idykidshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11136764054580735228noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5617362899035856938.post-53353141119305325582010-01-01T12:36:00.000-08:002010-01-01T12:46:10.066-08:00Other movieHi again! This is Zora. First of all, HAPPY NEW YEAR!
Today i want to recommend yet another movie - Howl's Moving Castle. It is a Japanese animation film. The only thing I didn't like about it was that it was a little mushy... but, who cares? There was only a little kissing. I LOVED the animation, and all of the colors, and the details were amazing. This story is about a girl named Sophie who lives with her mom and who works in her late father's tailor shop. She lives in a place that is at war, and all of the wizards and witches are being summoned by the queen to the palace to help them out at war. The one wizard, however, who doesn't go, is a handsome man named Howl, who's heart is controlled by a fire demon, who is surprisingly nice. But back to Sophie. One night, Sophie is turned into an old woman by the witch of the wastes, (the wastes is a place where all the witches and wizards were sent, isolated from the town.) so she goes off on a journey into the wastes to find the witch and convince her to turn her back into a journey. She finds herself falling in love and risking her life for Howl, who is scared of the Queen.
All in all I would recommend it.
Bye!
Idykidshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11136764054580735228noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5617362899035856938.post-35723740430359168312009-12-24T16:55:00.000-08:002009-12-24T17:09:47.150-08:00ChristmasHello Everyone!
This is an artistic Christmas idea I am about to recommend for the future, given the fact you probably already have a Christmas tree since it is Christmas Eve.
As you all know, right now we are celebrating Christmas. Many people have many traditions for Christmas, like the Christmas Ham, or hanging up stockings, or going out caroling, and of course the good old Christmas tree. Well, over the summer my family and I moved, and the house we are currently living in is packed with stuff the people left - leather couches, rocking chairs, etc. We soon realized we did not have enough room for a regular Christmas tree, even if we got a small one. I of course insisted on having some sort of Christmas tree, and my dad suggested getting one or two gigantic Manzanita branches and tying them together. A little downhearted I agreed, and we went out to get the perfect Manzanita branch. Or two, as it later turned out. Finally, we found two perfect ones and took it home. The following is the things we did to make it artistic and creative, but still a little Christmasie, if that's a word (which i don't think is! :D)
1)we painted it a bunch of different colors that made it look very pretty - cool green, bright blue, turqouise, and even more.
2)we put up the tinfoil star we always used.
3)we hung up all our ornaments just as usual on small branches
4)we painted the leaves really bright colors to make them look like ornaments themselves
5)we put our presents at the bottom
That was all i wanted to share, so MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL AND TO ALL GOODNIGHT! hope you enjoy your presents!Idykidshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11136764054580735228noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5617362899035856938.post-11633388271853240172009-12-20T17:23:00.000-08:002009-12-20T18:19:29.653-08:00

hello!!!
Have you seen the new movie UP? It's a really good movie about a little boy who loves a guy
named Charles Muntz. Charles Muntz is an explorer and the little boy, Carl Fredrickson, meets a young girl named Ellie who also loves adventure. Her dream is to move to Paradise Falls, the place Charles Muntz was going to explore. The two kids grow up and marry .
I could ramble on and on and fill up three pages on it, but I will skip to my favorite parts, so you will just have to see the movie to know what I am talking about. Anyway, here is my first fav. part, involving a small boy named Russell.
Mr.Fredrickson, now an old man, is walking along with Russel and someone says "hi there."
Next a voice says, "I can smell you!" It is a very misty place, so they can't see very far. He looks around and sees a rock shaped like a person. "Oh hi there," he says. He walks toward the figure and sees that it is a rock. Then a dog runs up. He pats the dog on the head, and it sits. The boy says "oh look, it's trained." "Shake, boy!" and he does. "Speak!", Russell says, and he does. "Hi there," says the dog.
My second favorite part also involves the talking dog, Doug. Doug tells a joke to Mr. Frederickson: "I know a joke! A squirrel walks up to a tree and says, "I forgot to store acorns for winter and now I am dead!" It is funny because a squirrel gets dead." You know how I feel about squirrels since the incident in Cuyamaca, so I totally agree with Doug.
anyway, I really hope you watch the movie! Stay tuned for more because I am planning on writing a review for the movie Julie and Julia.
---audrey P.S. please leave me your comments!
Idykidshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11136764054580735228noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5617362899035856938.post-35323528192096100542009-11-17T19:37:00.000-08:002009-11-17T20:14:32.941-08:00the Science Center

Last Saturday it was the day before my mom's birthday. Most of my mom's family lives down in
San Diego, so we went to celebrate down there. We had a great time with everybody and some great food at a place called Point Loma Seafood. We also had a pie that my grandma made called lemon fluff pie. But the best part was after everybody left. My parents decided to surprise my sister and me by taking us to the Science Center in Balboa Park.

The Science Center is a very large building filled with dozens of hands-on science experiments. It is awesome there. As soon as you enter the first room, the first thing you see is a gigantic piece of fluttering red silk near the ceiling. When I walked in, I found that you can adjust the patterns of the silk by shifting the angle of the wind blowing on it. There was everything from tornados of liquid nitrogen mist to pendulums filled with sand, all illustrating a scientific concept.

One of my favorites was a beach ball suspended in air by a large blower, which could be moved around to move the ball. There was an exhibit where you had to coordinate pushing buttons to operate a pair of mechanical legs pedaling a bike. There were all sorts of optical illusions, and an entire room dedicated to electricity. The best part was that all of it was hands-on. It was a great experience, and you should really go there!

Stay tuned for more,

Audrey

Idykidshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11136764054580735228noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5617362899035856938.post-39017567567788990822009-11-06T18:30:00.001-08:002009-11-06T18:46:24.812-08:00Hi!Hi.
This is Zora again, and I wanted to talk today about some movies.
Here are a few extremely good ones I would highly recommend:
Firstly, the latest movie I watched is Where the Wild Things Are.
I will speak for myself, I really liked it, but most of my friends hated it. The worst thing about it, I think, was how loud it was in the theater, but what can you do about that? It had anger, so it wasn't one of the always happy movies, and in the end it was a mixed ending, because he's back with his mom, but he misses, and you do, too, the wild things. It is made for older kids, and it's a little intense, but the way I think of it is it would be really bad if the Wild Things didn't show how dangerous they were in the movie. The main character was a really good actor, and you could totally see him in real life running away, because when he's acting like he's mad you actually believe he is, or at least I did. I really liked that movie.

Rabbit Proof Fence is an amazing - based on a true story about 3 Aboriginal girls, Molly, Daisy, and Gracie who live in Jigalong. They are half and half, their father was a white man and they live with there Aboriginal mother in their tribe in Jigalong, a place in Australia. Then this man sends out people to capture the three girls and take them away to the camp for half cast kids so they can grow up and become servants and have children, and eventually, after many generations, their children would become white, with no trace of Aboriginal. The girls hate the camp, and so they decide to go the 15oo miles back, therefore setting forth into an amazing journey. I won't give away the ending, but I will tell you this: only 2 out of 3 of the girls get back. It is a breath taking movie, and I would highly recommend it.
Well, that's all for Now!
I hope you try the movies.
ZoraIdykidshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11136764054580735228noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5617362899035856938.post-56820067516137696672009-10-15T14:36:00.000-07:002009-10-15T15:12:28.856-07:00Save the Redwood Trees!Hello everyone!
A topic I want kids to know about is the Redwood Trees. Redwood Trees are fascinating plants that grow up to be hundreds of feet high, and sometimes 5 people have to stretch their arms around it, that's how wide they are. These trees have a reddish tint on the outside and red wood on the inside. Better yet, they're right here in California, in a place called Humboldt County, maybe about 13 or 14 hours from Idyllwild. Anyway, many years ago, a small family found these Redwood Trees, hundreds of miles of them. To them it looked never ending. So they started a business they named Pacific Lumber Co. They thought it would never end so they weren't doing the forest much harm. They had a company owned town called Scotia with workers that lived there. They weren't doing the forests to much harm, they were cutting the trees where they would take a few from certain areas, leaving it so they could regrow. But after a while, a big company called Maxxam bought the company and did a thing called "Clear cutting" where they cut down every tree in an area down to the bottom, plus all of the small plants in their way. The sad truth is, now there's only 3% of the redwood trees left. Some people acted out, like Julia Butterfly Hill. She sat in a tree named Luna for 2 years. (If you want to know more about her their is a book called "Legacy of Luna".) However, we need more Julias here, working to help save the Redwoods.
Here are a few reasons why the Pacific Lumber might cut down the trees:
They have a family to feed
They need to pay off their rent
There's no other jobs in the area, and they don't know where else to move

I'm not saying this excuses the fact they've been cutting down Redwoods for their own benifits, but does explain it a tiny bit.
This is how the owner of Maxxam can think of it:
I live in Texas, not California, and these are some trees I've never and probably will see. Why would it matter to me?
I hope you can look further into this, if you are interested, and remember, every person counts.

- ZoraIdykidshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11136764054580735228noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5617362899035856938.post-54402407703884562002009-10-11T09:58:00.000-07:002009-10-11T11:33:32.390-07:00Day trip to Cuyamaca

hello!

Yesterday I went on a trip to Cuyamaca State Park to celebrate my Grandma Crazylady's birthday (yes, she knows we call her that, it's a nickname). So we left at about 10:00 on Saturday morning. Cuyamaca is a nice place, kind of like Idyllwild. A fire went through there a few years ago so it is kind of charred, though still pretty. So, back to the story We had been driving for about an hour and a half when we reached the small town of Santa Ysabel. It is a tiny town. The whole town is about 5 buildings. It is known for a bakery there called Dudleys. The bakery smells the best and has really good fresh bread. We bought five loaves! Then we went into a tiny antiques shop that also sells olives. After that we got back on the road.

The next tiny town we entered is called Wynola. It is about the size of Santa Ysabel with about 7 buildings. In Wynola there is even a one room school house. We also got some fresh apple cider. It is good!! Then we went into a bead shop. In the bead shop there was a gumball machine filled with beads. I put in a quarter expecting a handful, but it only gave me four. Oh well. At least they were pretty.

From Wynola, we continued into Julian. Julian is a town about the size of Pine Cove and Idyllwild put together. It was very old-fashioned. There were horse-drawn carriages, and street fairs. It was also very, very busy, so we didn't stop.

About ten minutes past Julian, we passed Cuyamaca Lake and continued on into the park where my grandparents are camping. We got there but they weren't at their campsite, so we went to the visitor's center to wait for them. They were very surprised to find us there. We hadn't told them we were coming. We went back to their campsite and had lunch, some cheese and the bread we had gotten at Dudley's.

I was eating my cheese when I saw a little ground squirrel nosing around our feet. He was so tame! I put some cheese on my finger and offered it to him. He slowly approached my finger, eyeing the cheese. I held very still as he nibbled the cheese from my finger.... and then bit my finger! I screamed as the blood ran down from under my fingernail. Never again will I feed a squirrel. For the rest of the day, my family kept saying things like "Hey Audrey, there's a rattlesnake! Why don't you feed it some cheese?"

Following the squirrel incident, whenever he popped his head out of his hole, I threw a rock at him. My aim isn't very good, though. We took a hike in the afternoon and found one of his friends dead on the trail. I didn't do it. But it made me feel better.

Along the trail, we found a horny toad no bigger than my pinky. I thought that was pretty cool, because horny toads (horned lizards) are endangered. After the hike, we came back and had the pumpkin pie we had made for a birthday cake. I love having dessert first.

Since grandma wasn't expecting us, she didn't have enough food for dinner. We went to a restaurant in our last small town, Descanso. I had a good meal of fettucini alfredo and we headed home.

Stay tuned for more- Audrey

Idykidshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11136764054580735228noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5617362899035856938.post-87441475391585957982009-10-04T13:35:00.000-07:002009-10-04T13:39:47.021-07:00The meaning of this BlogHi!!!
Welcome to A2Z idykids blog.
